Hi My name is Lynn and I though I would share something every dear to me. Charity shop donations I volunteer at my local charity shop and lots of people very kindly donate stuff but as a volunteer you get to see hands on what people donate. over the two year I have volunteered for I have seen everything from brand new still got the tag on them items to I wouldn't even let a dog chew on it. so I thought I would share an easy guide to donating.
Always donate to a charity that is close to your heart as you'll feel better for it.
Always say YES! to gift aid if your a tax payer as the charity will get 25p from every £1 of your donations that they sell.
Know what you can and can't donate before handing anything in.
What most charity's take:
Women's/Men's and Kids clothing - In reusable condition thats means NO! stains, tears, holes, or bad smell from them.
Shoes/Handbags/jewellery and accessories - In reusable condition thats means NO! stains, tears, holes, bad smell or bits missing from them.
Homeware ie Vases/Photo Frames/ornaments and Tea Sets - In reusable condition thats means NO! chips, broken bits, bits missing from them and can be wiped down if needed.
Furniture (selected shops only) - In reusable condition thats means NO! chips, broken bits, bits missing from them and can be wiped down if needed.
Electrical Goods (selected shops only) - In reusable condition thats means No! chips, broken bits, bits missing from them, can be wiped down if needed and working but will be part tested before resell anyway.
Books - In reusable condition thats means NO! stains, tears, marks, bad smell or bits missing from them.
Toys - In reusable condition thats means NO! stains, tears, marks, bad smell, bits missing from them and can be wiped down if needed.
CD's/DVD's - In reusable condition thats means NO! scratches, bits missing and Please NO! copies
Things Some charity's may take:
Foreign currency
VHS tapes
Please check first.
Always try and help the staff/volunteers when donating by storing out the items first and keep clothes separate from other items.
Don't give them stuff they don't want:
Underwear/Socks - Even If you have wash them they don't want them unless its new still in it's pack or got tag on it.
Things that are broken
Things with bits missing
Things with stains on it
Things with holes in it
The trick to donating is to say to yourself would I buy it. If the answer is No don't donate and please remember it's a charity shop to raise money for that charity NOT A RECYCLE BIN!.
